TerraTwin Fosters European Synergies at the FOCAL Clustering Event in Zaragoza

May 22, 2026 | News

From May 6-8, 2026, the TerraTwin project participated in the FOCAL European Clustering Event held in Zaragoza, Spain. The event served as a collaborative platform for large-scale European initiatives to discuss technological integration, shared challenges, and ecosystem modeling.

Representing the TerraTwin consortium, CSIC staff members Laura Fuentes-Tejada (PhD student) and Paula Catasús (Research Technician) presented the core objectives of the project —specifically its focus on building a “7D” Digital Twin of the Ecosystem (DTE) to merge climate and biodiversity datasets.

Expert Discussions & Knowledge Exchange

In addition to presenting the project’s technical framework, the CSIC team participated in two high-level exchange sessions:

  1. Digital Twins Expert Panel: A session dedicated to the deployment of predictive AI models, data integration architectures, and scalability.
  2. Multi-Project Round Table: A structured discussion among various European projects focusing on finding synergies and mapping out solutions to shared hurdles in large-scale data harmonization.

Building Long-Term Communication Lines

A primary objective of attending the FOCAL event was to network with peer research consortia. The interactions established new communication lines between TerraTwin and complementary EU-funded projects. These relationships are intended to drive collaborative data exchange, prevent duplication of research efforts, and enhance the long-term impact of the project’s outputs as it progresses through its 36-month timeline.

By engaging directly with the European scientific community, TerraTwin continues to align its technical milestones with broader EU digital infrastructures and policy targets.
