17-18 June 2026, Ghent, Belgium

The TerraTwin consortium gathered in Ghent, Belgium, for the project’s 1st Plenary Meeting — the first time all partners convened in person since the project’s launch. Over two days, representatives from the project’s 14 partner organisations across 10 countries came together for intensive discussions on progress, coordination, and the path forward.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review developments across all work packages, from the technical foundations of the Digital Twin of the Ecosystem (DTE) to data management, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination activities. Partners shared updates on their respective contributions and aligned on priorities for the coming reporting period.

A central focus was the project’s four pilot demonstration sites, each addressing a distinct facet of the climate–biodiversity nexus: wildfire cascades in Greece, compound flooding and soil biodiversity in Belgium, deep-sea Marine Protected Area restoration in Spain, and climate-resilient fisheries management in Ireland. Discussions centred on harmonising approaches across these diverse environments and ensuring the DTE delivers actionable insights for each.

Beyond the technical sessions, the meeting reinforced the collaborative spirit at the heart of TerraTwin. Bringing together expertise spanning environmental science, marine biology, data engineering, and digital innovation, the consortium reaffirmed its shared commitment to building a tool that helps Europe better understand — and respond to — the intertwined challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss.

TerraTwin thanks all partners for their participation and looks forward to the milestones ahead as the project continues to develop.
